报告人简介

Prof. Burns pursued his undergraduate studies in chemistry at Columbia University, where he was guided by Prof. James L. Leighton and obtained the bachelor degree with highest honors. In 2004, he began his graduate studies with Prof. Phil S. Baran at The Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, CA. In 2009, he was trained as a NIH Postdoctoral Fellow in the laboratory of Prof. Eric N. Jacobsen at Harvard University. Prof. Burns began his independent career at Stanford University in 2012, and continued as a Terman Fellow until now.

Prof. Burns’s group is well known for the methodology development of catalytic, enantioselective dihalogenation, as well as the elegant synthesis of relevant lipid natural products with unanswered scientific questions. Research in his group explores the boundaries of modern organic synthesis to enable the more rapid creation of the highest molecular complexity in a predictable and controllable fashion. Prof. Burns has been recognized by a list of prestigious awards such as E. J. Corey Young Investigator Award and Thieme Chemistry Journal Award. He has already got a NIH funding that is very difficult to be approved due to fierce competition.
