Founded in 1985, the State Key Laboratory of Applied Organic Chemistry (abbreviated as SKLAOC) at Lanzhou University is one of the first state key laboratories ratified by the State Planning Commission of China.

With continuous effort in years, the SKLAOC has become an important national center for scientific research in the area of organic chemistry and related disciplines. Nowadays, the Laboratory consists of 260 members - 1 academician of Chinese Science Academy, 28 professors, 40 support and professional staff, 80 graduate and 150 undergraduate students - organized into......

Dr. David G. Bucknall from Georgia Institute of Technology visited SKLAOC during 7-13/May and gave talks on the topic of “Hydrogels for Tissue Expansion” and “Molecular Templating – Towards Quantum Information Processing”.

Dr John Clough from the new Syngenta gave a talk on the topic of “Natural Products as Leads for New and Innovative Crop Protection Chemicals - the Strobilurin Fungicides”

German scientist Gerhard Ertl won the 2007 Nobel Prize in chemistry Wednesday for his studies of chemical processes on solid surfaces.
"This science is important for the chemical industry and can help us to understand such varied processes as why iron rusts, how fuel cells function and how the catalysts in our cars work," the Royal Swedish Academy of Science said in a statement.
